Department of Indian Work
DIW partners with American Indian families to revitalize culture, education and wellness. They provide a safe, Indigenous space to empower American Indians towards self-determination, while respecting cultural and spiritual diversity. Their programs include: Emergency Services that include a food shelf, clothing closet, and referrals to employment, transportation, education, and other community resources. DIW’s Emergency Services are open to all who are in need; Health Services that provide diabetes prevention education for families and youth, plus food demonstrations and community healthy food/diabetes consultation; American Indian Youth Enrichment with after-school and summer programs focused on Indigenous cultural, wellness, and educational activities; and the Economic Mobility Hub that provides resources to build stability and economic strength for American Indians in the Twin Cities East Metro area.
Hallie Q. Brown Community Center
The mission of Hallie Q. Brown Community Center, Inc is to improve the quality of life in their community by providing access to critical human services, fostering and promoting personal growth, and developing community leadership. They do this through their basic needs services (food shelf and clothing closet), senior and youth services, and more.
Hidden River Middle School
All public schools would benefit from community support as they serve a diverse group of students, many with significant economic needs. We have decided to initially prioritize a partnership with Hidden River Middle School. Hidden River Middle School’s mission is to empower students to become caring, inquiring, knowledgeable global citizens who honor communities and create a better world. Their student body is very diverse, with about 61% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch.
Project Home
Project Home provides emergency shelter and rapid exit case management services for area families facing homelessness. Stabilizing services include basic daily needs (meals, laundry), case management (assistance finding housing, employment, daycare, and school), financial education (budgeting, saving, credit/debt recovery), and on-site mental health therapy.
